Overview
On of the most charming beach of all is Livadi ton Kalogiron. What makes it truly special is its secluded location and the path leading to it: a serene meadow surrounding the abandoned Monastery of Panagia, dotted with vegetable fields and irrigation ditches—a tranquil glimpse of rural life on the island.
Perched on a small hill at the edge of this peaceful beach is, quite possibly, the most beautiful canteen I have ever encountered. Shaded by a roof of reeds and surrounded by tall grasses, it feels like a hidden retreat, with an opening that frames the sea view like a painting. Inside this cozy corner, you’ll find a garden of potted basil, colorful fabrics, cushions for seating, hand-painted pumpkins in bright hues, and artworks featuring beautiful tankers. It’s a heartfelt gift from Katerina to her husband, Vangelis Kamitsis. With her artistic talent, she has created a space that brings him joy and fond memories of his life at sea, before they built this canteen together a decade ago.
The canteen at Livadi ton Kalogiron offers refreshing drinks, ouzo with meze, and simple, delicious dishes made from the fresh produce grown in the nearby gardens. It is a little slice of paradise, made even more memorable by the gentle hospitality of this warm and welcoming couple. Truly a hidden treasure on an unassuming yet beautiful beach of Patmos.
