Overview
In Patmos, the charismatic producer Christodoulos Koumanis continues a family legacy. He and his brother took over their father Theologos’s bakery, which began as a traditional wood-fired oven after the war and later transitioned to modern German technology, providing the island with bread for decades. Eager to explore his passion, Christodoulos studied confectionery in 1991 and, a year later, left the family business to open his own candy store.
At Christodoulos’s patisserie, you’ll find a delightful assortment of traditional sweets, including cakes, pastries, and ice creams to suit every palate and occasion—weddings, birthdays, baptisms, and more. However, he is particularly renowned for his local specialties, especially the beloved Patmos cheese pie, which has gained a loyal following among visitors.
During the winter months, Christodoulos primarily serves the local community, but in the summer, he introduces tourists to the exquisite flavors of Patmos sweets, which leave a lasting impression. His standout offerings include the airy Patinioti Cheese Pie made with a blend of three cheeses, as well as fried and grilled pouches filled with various ingredients. He also serves delectable treats like stuffed pastries with walnuts and almonds, honey and flower water, and the delightful pear macaroon dusted with powdered sugar.
Christodoulos Koumanis, always cheerful and generous, proudly champions Patmos gastronomy, representing the island at numerous events and exhibitions in Greece and abroad, ensuring its culinary heritage shines bright.
