Overview
On the charming island of Patmos, one producer stands out for his vibrant personality: Christodoulos Koumanis. Together with his brother, he took the reins of the family bakery, originally a wood-fired oven established by their father, Theologos. Over the years, this oven transitioned to modern German technology, providing the island with fresh bread for decades.
In 1991, driven by a passion for confectionery, Christodoulos decided to branch out and opened his own candy shop in 1992, leaving the family bakery in his brother’s capable hands. His patisserie is a treasure trove of traditional Greek sweets, offering an extensive selection of cakes, pastries, and ice creams suitable for every occasion—be it weddings, birthdays, or baptisms. However, it is the local delicacies of Patmos that have truly made him a household name, particularly the beloved Patmos cheese pie, which has captured the hearts of countless visitors.
During the winter months, Christodoulos serves the local community, but come summer, his sweets attract a wave of tourists eager to experience the flavors of Patmos. Among his standout creations are the light and airy Patinioti Cheese Pie made with a trio of cheeses, alongside fried and grilled pouches filled with various delights. Not to be missed are the stuffed pastries brimming with walnuts, almonds, honey, and fragrant flower water, as well as the delightful pear macaroons dusted with powdered sugar.
Always cheerful and generous, Christodoulos Koumanis proudly champions the culinary heritage of Patmos. He ensures the island shines at numerous events and exhibitions both in Greece and abroad, showcasing the rich flavors and traditions of Patmos gastronomy.
